The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Carroll Campus Career Academy automotive team scored second place during the 34th annual DMACC/Iowa Automobile Dealers Association (IADA) Automotive Skills Contest. The two-part contest started back in October, with 270 high school students completing a 100-question written test, with the top eight schools advancing to perform on the hands-on portion of the competition on Dec. 12. Students Parker Steinkamp and Dayton Wiederin represented DMACC Carroll, performing eight challenges ranging from engine performance, engine repair, electricity/electronics, brakes, steering, suspension, automatic transmission, manual drivetrain, and HVAC. Steinkamp and Wiederin placed second, earning scholarships and a prize package with tools and equipment from sponsors. The DMACC automotive program for the Carroll Career Academy is instructed by Professor Eric Wollesen.
