Local Fuel Retailers Awarded RFIP Grant Funds

Iowa is expanding access to higher blends of ethanol and biodiesel after nearly $5 million in state grants were awarded to retailers through the Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Program (RFIP). The cost-share program approved $4,992,182 for 108 projects statewide to upgrade fuel infrastructure and offer higher renewable fuel blends. Ninety-three of the grants will expand availability of E15, a gasoline blend containing 15 percent ethanol, while 15 projects will add B11 biodiesel at select retail sites. Local recipients included Casey’s General Stores, Drees Oil, and Kimmes Enterprises. To qualify, biodiesel retailers must offer at least B11, though B5 may be sold during colder months. Ethanol retailers are eligible for E15 and higher blends. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig says, “These investments are about making it easier and more affordable for Iowans to choose homegrown fuels at the pump. By helping fuel retailers upgrade and modernize their infrastructure, we are expanding access to E15 and biodiesel, supporting local jobs, and benefiting Iowa communities. Since the program began in 2006, more than $65 million in grants have been awarded statewide, spurring an estimated $280 million in private investment to expand access to renewable fuels and support Iowa’s E15 Access Standard. A complete list of recipients is included with this story on our website.
