Iowa Fuel Report: Dec. 17, 2025

Gas prices in Iowa fell below the $2.50 mark in this week’s report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and AAA-Iowa. As of Wednesday, Dec. 17, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in the state was $2.48, down five cents from the previous week and 21 cents lower than a year ago. The national average on Wednesday was down three cents to $2.91 per gallon. Iowa retail diesel averaged $3.39 per gallon, down 11 cents from last week but still 14 cents higher than December 2024. Local prices are 25 cents lower than the $3.64 national average. At the Des Moines Terminal, E10 is $1.47, Unleaded 87 is $1.69, ULSD #2 is $1.95, ULSD #1 is $3.65, and E70 is $1.72. In heating fuels, propane prices held steady at $1.55 per gallon, home heating oil dropped 14 cents to $2.93 per gallon, and natural gas at the Henry Hub reporting site was down 62 cents to $3.99 per MMBtu.
