The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education heard presentation on the district’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) plan, approve early graduates, quotes and more during Tuesday night’s board meeting. First on the agenda was a presentation on the district building’s ESSA plan, which focuses on Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) that will address the targeted status reflected on the Iowa School Performance Profiles through the Department of Education. The board also reviewed a the at risk/drop out prevention plan as required to have, and later in the meeting approved for a modified spending authority that is used to implement strategies specifically to help students classified in that category. The old greenhouse at the soccer fields by the middle school was approved to be removed, and will be done by the start of the spring soccer season. No action was taken on the two fuel bids received, as board member Jim Friel compared prices of leasing the equipment to the district purchasing its own. Formal bids will likely be sent out and returned to the board for approval in the next coming months after more research is conducted. The rest of the meeting consisted of budget updates and the School Budget Review Committee’s request for spending authority for students open enrolled out of the district and English Learners that are participating in the program past the five-year benchmark for $122,054 and $10,464 respectively.
