A Carroll woman was charged yesterday (Monday) for allegedly using a stolen identity to fraudulently obtain utility services at her residence for more than two months. According to a criminal complaint filed by the Carroll Police Department, 41-year-old Laura Lynn Madden used personal information from an individual who has never lived in Carroll to sign up with MidAmerican Energy and Alliant Energy. Authorities say Madden began using the services around Oct. 1, which continued until the identity theft was discovered on Dec. 10. Law enforcement notes that up to $1,500 in services were obtained illegally in this manner. Madden is charged with identity theft, an aggravated misdemeanor, and was issued a summons to appear at the Carroll County Courthouse on Jan. 8.
