DMU Awarded Portion Of $4.7 Million In Grants Through USDA For Rural Water And Healthcare Projects

U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development announces today (Wednesday) a $1 million grant to Denison Municipal Utilities (DMU) to improve the city’s water supply. Through the Emergency Community Water Assistance grant, DMU will use the funding to construct a rock riffle dam in the East Boyer River. The goal of the project is to recharge the well field and provide a more consistent water supply, especially during drought. The dam will enhance the health and safety of over 9,000 residents in the City of Denison and the surrounding rural areas of Crawford County. Three other projects were awarded funding totaling $4.7 million for water and healthcare improvements in rural Iowa, including the City of Clearfield to evaluate its wastewater system, Wayne County Hospital for a 4,820 square foot addition, Palmer Lutheran Health Center Inc, to add an obstetrics facility to its West Union clinic and the City of Macedonia for a new well in the existing well field.
