Broken Strings Hosts Community Celebration Friday

A western Iowa-based musical non-profit organization, Broken Strings, is hosting a free community event and guitar giveaway later this week. Broken Strings’ supporters will gather on Friday, Dec. 12, at the Cobblestone Inn and Ballroom in Storm Lake. The event will celebrate the organization’s mission to expand music education across the state, and the evening will include a 30-guitar giveaway to middle school students in Storm Lake. Doors open at 6 p.m., with live music beginning at 7 p.m. Broken Strings’ founder, Scott Kirkhart of Manson, says, “Music education changes lives. We’re honored to support young musicians across Iowa and to partner with the Storm Lake School District to strengthen their music program.” Broken Strings is a registered 501(c)(3) and has worked with schools statewide to provide instruments and increase access to musical opportunities for middle school students. Since its 2021 founding, Broken Strings has given away well over 100 guitars in Iowa, aiming to present at least one in all 367 of Iowa’s school districts. Families, educators, and community members are invited to join in the Dec. 12 celebration.
