Several local fire departments were dispatched last night (Wednesday) to a residential structure fire in southern Carroll County, which fortunately caused no significant damage or injuries. According to Templeton Fire Chief Duane Irlbeck, the call for a garage fire in the 30,000 block of Hawthorne Avenue, about a mile southwest of town, came in at approximately 6:36 p.m. The Manning and Dedham Fire Department also responded to that initial call. Upon arrival, firefighters determined that a heater had ignited and quickly extinguished the flames before they could spread from the attached garage to the rest of the home. Irlbeck says they were fortunate that the owners noticed the fire early, as it could have quickly grown out of control, and the damage was limited to the area around the heater. Crews remained on scene temporarily to monitor for hotspots. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Carroll County Emergency Medical Services, and Carroll County Communication Center also assisted in Wednesday’s response. The call serves as a reminder for residents to be mindful of their heating equipment, as colder weather often requires them to run for longer than usual to maintain interior temperatures.
