Lake View Fire Department Warns To Stay Off Black Hawk Lake After Incident This Weekend

The Lake View Fire Department is warning residents and visitors to stay off of Black Hawk Lake after a close call this weekend. Even with the drop in temperatures and the first snow, the ice on the lake is not to the level of thickness to be safe for individuals to be walking, or driving on. No one was injured in the incident, and local authorities are urging to use this as a lesson to wait until the ice has time to form. According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, ice should be at least four inches thick for walking and ice finishing, five inches for snowmobiles and ATV, with 15 inches for a small vehicle, at minimum.
