The Carroll Chamber of Commerce is diving into the holidays with gusto this weekend as the community celebrates Thanksgiving and the unofficial start of the Christmas season. Chamber Program Director Ashley Schable says things really get rolling on Black Friday.
She adds that nearly all retailers in the area are offering Black Friday deals, so she encourages shoppers to check with their local stores first before going online or out of town. Schable says they are inviting everybody down to the Chamber Depot on Friday night for the traditional lighting ceremony, with some new additions to this year’s program.
The Chamber is also hosting a community Christmas tree, and staff encourage local businesses, residents, and children to bring their ornaments to the office by Dec. 5 for placement on the tree for all to enjoy. Another major part of Thanksgiving weekend is Small Business Saturday, a nationwide effort led by American Express and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Schable invites shoppers and families back to the chamber that afternoon and evening for the popular horse-drawn carriage rides.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be visiting Carroll every weekend up until Christmas. The popular pair will be stationed in the Westgate Mall each Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
