A driver has been charged with operating while intoxicated after crashing his vehicle into a parked car and a house in Carroll on Friday evening. According to a Carroll Police Department report, the accident occurred at approximately 5:48 p.m. in the 700 block of N. East Street. Authorities say 57-year-old Tharjiath Char Chol of Carroll was traveling southbound in a 2006 Cadillac Escalade when he sideswiped a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze that was legally parked on the east side of the road. Chol then left the roadway, crossing over the sidewalk and through two yards before colliding with the northwest corner of a home. Chol did not report any injuries to law enforcement after the crash and was arrested for first-offense operating under the influence, a serious misdemeanor, after failing a field sobriety test and displaying multiple signs of inebriation. Authorities say his blood alcohol content was 0.236 percent, nearly three times the legal limit. Chol was also cited for failure to maintain control and failure to provide proof of financial liability. The Chol vehicle was totaled in the accident. Damage to the Chevrolet Cruze is estimated at $5,000, while damage to the home is around $15,000. Carroll County Emergency Medical Services and the Carroll County Communication Center also assisted in the response.
