CCSD Board Of Education Reviews And Discusses Weather Days Plan Before Forecasted Snow

With the first chance of accumulating snow forecasted for this weekend, the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) has been preparing by reviewing the plan for weather days with staff and the board during last week’s Board of Education meeting. Superintendent Dr. Casey Berlau says that on days when winter weather hits, he is up at 4:30 a.m., driving around to determine with CCSD Transportation Director Jennifer Dentlinger if road conditions are safe for busses or commuters. A call is made usually by 6 a.m. if there will be a delayed start or cancelation of the day. Berlau says the first two canceled days for the year will be used traditional “snow days”.

Teachers are required to make up days missed due to contracted hours. Teacher associates (TA) would have the first two traditional snow days paid, but then would need to participate in professional development or work in some capacity to get the rest of the days that are canceled paid or use personal leave. Berlau says there are snow days built into the calendar, which allows for students to not have to make those up at the end of the school year.

Discussions on winter weather days and how to make them up was brought up during negotiations earlier this year and Berlau says the district administration took the feedback into consideration to change for this winter weather season.

For weather related updates, Berlau says to be sure to be signed up for school notifications to your mobile device through Infinite Campus, or to check out media platforms, like the district’s social media pages and Carroll Broadcasting.
