With Thanksgiving travel beginning in earnest on Monday, the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB)is partnering with law enforcement agencies statewide to promote safe driving through the holiday weekend, Nov. 30. Motorists can expect an increased police presence on Iowa roads as officers work to reduce crashes during one of the busiest travel periods of the year. GTSB officials are urging travelers to buckle up, as nearly a third of the serious injury or fatal crashes last Thanksgiving week involved unrestrained occupants. GTSB reminds Iowans that “Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving” and encourages drivers to plan ahead for a sober ride. Impaired driving includes alcohol and drug use, and officials note, “If You Feel Different, You Drive Different.” The GTSB works with city, county, state, and local organizations to implement safety strategies funded through federal grants.
