Gov. Kim Reynolds today (Wednesday) signed a harvest proclamation extension that eases agriculture-related transportation as farmers wrap up the 2025 season. The proclamation, which was initially signed in September, will now continue through Dec. 19. The order permits vehicles hauling corn, soybeans, soybean meal, hay, straw, silage, stover, fertilizer, and manure to operate overweight without a permit, up to 90,000 pounds gross weight. The order applies to all state and local highways, but it excludes the interstate system. To qualify, loads must remain under the 90,000-pound cap, comply with posted bridge and road limits, stay within 12.5 percent of the non-primary highway axle weight allowances, and never exceed the legal maximum axle weight of 20,000 pounds. The temporary allowance helps farmers and commercial haulers to move commodities more efficiently during the busy harvest window. Nearly all of this season’s corn and soybean crop in Iowa has been harvested, but the proclamation is often extended beyond the period when combines are still in the field.
