A Carroll man was sentenced to ten years in prison last week after violating the terms of his probation and pleading guilty for causing a car accident that led to serious injuries earlier this year. According the Carroll County District Court records, 34-year-old Joel Patrick Maloney pled guilty on Nov. 13 to serious injury by vehicle, a class D felony when he hit a vehicle operated by Haeleigh Busse of Guthrie Center head on, causing her to receive life-threatening injuries, spending 25 days in a hospital and multiple surgeries. Maloney also pled guilty for violating his probation by consuming alcohol and exposing himself to a relative. His original sentence of four years, for the aggravated misdemeanors for assault with intent to commit sexual abuse and first-degree harassment are now imposed, to run concurrent with a five-year prison sentence ordered for an operating under the influence third or subsequent offence that occurred on April 24. Maloney has also been ordered to serve an indeterminate term to not exceed five years for the serious injury by vehicle charge which will run consecutively with his other incarceration sentences. Maloney will remain in the Carroll County Jail until pending transfer to another facility.
