Calhoun County residents have until Wednesday to submit comments on the proposed construction of adding two additional confinement barns to an existing facility in the eastern part of the county. The confinement buildings owners, located about a mile south of Somers on York Avenue, have filed a permit application to construct two new deep pit swine finishing confinement barns that will create a total of 2,000 animal units to hold 5,000 head of swine. The finishing barns are designed to house youth pigs after they are weaned from sow until they reach market weight. Comments on the proposed construction will be received until Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 12 p.m. and can be dropped off at the Calhoun County Auditor’s Office or email at sschossow@calhouncounty.iowa.gov. A public hearing will be held during the Nov. 25 Calhoun County Board of Supervisors meeting starting at 9 a.m. with the public hearing slated for around 9:20 a.m.
