The City of Coon Rapids is the next to implement a communication software making it easier for residents to stay in the loop of events, changes, and anything else going on in town. TextMyGov is a government communications platform that offers assistance to community members 24/7 through a mobile device. City Clerk Jes Leighty says city officials, and representatives from Main Street Coon Rapids (MSCR) and Coon Rapids Municipal Utilities (CRMU) were needing to find a new way to get announcement outs after CRMU stopped providing cable services.
Leighty says the three entities were just planning to use social media but were having issues with reaching the entire community.
With the city council’s approval of the purchase, Leighty says residents can expect more information to be sent out in the next few weeks.
Residents will receive a number to text that will be specifically assigned to the City of Coon Rapids, MSCR and CRMU. The software will also allow for two-way communication to get information from community members to city officials more timely and effectively. This is just one of the many initiatives in the city’s “Surviving Streetscaping” project expected to be rolled out in 2026.
