The Sac City Chamber of Commerce is taking the inspiration of a Sioux City man to add more color to the streets of the community. Earlier this month, 46-year-old Brandon Bradshaw was arrested by the Sioux City Police Department for fourth-degree criminal mischief after he allegedly spray-painted flowers over and around manhole covers throughout Sioux City in October. Sac City Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Crystal Hanrahan says Bradshaw had no ill-intention on the action and his designs gave her an idea to continue her mission of making Sac City a great place to stay, work and visit.
Hanrahan says she wanted to make sure it was all done safely and legally, so her first message was to Sac City Mayor Scott Bundt at 5 a.m. last Friday.
Individuals, businesses, organizations, even if located outside of Sac City, are encouraged to pick a manhole cover on the streets in the community to paint flowers around it. Hanrahan says the paintings must be of flowers and will need to be completed by Sunday, Nov. 16 to be entered into a little friendly competition.
Already claimed manhole covers can be found below, but Hanrahan says there are still plenty that could use some colorful flowers on them.
Hanrahan says she would be glad to assist anyone in finding a location to paint if they need that help. Again, anyone interested in painting flowers for the Sac City Chamber’s “Our Town Is Cooler Than Your Town- Manhole Flower” art contest, reach out to Hanrahan by calling 712-662-7316 or messaging the Sac City Chamber Facebook page.
