GCMC Contributes Over $53 Million To Iowa’s Economy In 2024 According To IHA Report

Greene County Medical Center (GCMC) contributed nearly $54 million to the state’s economy in 2024, according to a report released by the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA). The hospital accounted for 5.9 percent of Greene County’s gross domestic product (GDP), with $30.4 million in expenditures. Of those expenses, $14 million was spent locally on wages and benefits for the 207 employees, making up 6.4 percent of the county’s workforce. Additionally, the hospital and clinics provided over $675 thousand in community benefits through charity care and uncollectible bad debts. Residents in Jefferson and the surrounding neighborhoods encountered staff over 24 thousand times through community service programs.
