According to the Iowa Hospital Association’s (IHA) latest economic impact survey, Stewart Memorial’s expenditures totaled $37.29 million, and just under 60 percent of that figure goes to maintaining its 247-person workforce. The data shows $22.05 million was paid out in wages and benefits in 2024, which are then spent in and around the area at local businesses. An estimated 16 percent of wages paid in Calhoun County come from Stewart Memorial, and the hospital accounts for approximately 8.7 percent of the county’s gross domestic product (GDP). In addition to the direct economic impact, Stewart Memorial also delivered $1.9 million in community benefits via charitable care or uncollectible debt for medical services.
