Lake City Administrator, Mikayla Dorman has been serving in her new role for over a month, saying she is starting to get settled in and ready to continue to promote the community. Dorman grew up in a neighboring town of Lanesboro, graduating from the South-Central Calhoun (SCC) Community School District. She obtained degrees in accounting and political science from Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) and the University of South Dakota before moving back to Lake City with her husband to raise their family. While no prior experience in city administration, Dorman does have a background in accounting, which helped her develop a strong understanding of financial management, budgeting, and fiscal responsibility, encouraging her to apply for the position. She says “I applied for the City Administrator role because I wanted to be part of shaping the future of our city. With my background in accounting, I understand how important financial stability is to every decision we make. This job gives me the opportunity to pair that financial expertise with leadership—helping departments work together, supporting the council’s vision, and ensuring residents see the benefits of responsible city management.” She says she looks forward to helping the city operate efficiently and responsibly, while supporting the community’s long-term goals. Dorman takes the place of previous full-time City Administrator Jacob Matthews who resigned back in March. His immediate vacancy was filled by a shared effort of Interim Janon Douglas and Lee Vogt over the past seven months.
