One Airlifted, Two Others Injured In Wednesday Crash Near Coon Rapids

One person was airlifted and two others were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Wednesday afternoon near Coon Rapids. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 4:34 p.m. south of the intersection of Apple Avenue and 320th Street, about 2.5 miles northeast of Coon Rapids on the Carroll/Greene County line. Authorities say a 2020 Jeep Compass, operated by 34-year-old Robert Edward Everett III of Coon Rapids, was traveling southbound on Apple Avenue and crossed the centerline, colliding head-on with a northbound 2002 Chrysler Town & Country van, driven by 41-year-old Curtis John Hofbauer of Coon Rapids. The Jeep came to rest overturned in the roadway, while the van came to rest in the east ditch, also overturned. Both drivers were transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. A 76-year-old Coon Rapids man, also named Curtis John Hofbauer, was airlifted to MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines for treatment of serious injuries. An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
