A Harlan man was sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty for the murder of a Earling woman. According to online court records, 34-year-old Winston Joseph Leal plead guilty to second-degree murder, a class B felony, a less severe charge than the class A felony he was originally facing after shooting Theresa Kenkel back in July. He was sentenced yesterday (Wednesday) to serve 50 years in prison, with credit given for the 89 days already spent in jail in connection to the crime. An accomplice, 35-year-old Ashley Elizabeth McWilliams also of Harlan has pled guilty for accessory after the fact, a class D felony. Her sentencing hearing is scheduled for Nov. 17.
