The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) is asking for input on a proposed overlay project on U.S. Highway 30 east of Jefferson that is expected to take place over the summer of 2027. The changes will be happening over the Buttrick Creek bridge, approximately 2.8 miles west of Grand Junction, where a new 205 foot by 44-foot pretension prestressed concrete beam bridge will be placed with a concrete overlay of the U.S Highway 30 pavement. The approximately five-mile long stretch of Highway 30 heading east of Jefferson will be closed to thru-traffic through the duration of the replacement. A detour will be routed around the area, utilizing Iowa Highway 4, heading north of Jefferson five miles to County Road E26. Motorist will then travel east seven miles to Dana, before turning south on Iowa Highway 144 to Grand Junction and reconnecting with U.S Highway 30. On Thursday, Oct. 30, DOT staff will be available between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson to explain the project, discuss ideas and answer questions. Questions and comments can also be submitted online using the link included with this story on our website.
