Fort Dodge Woman Enters Alford Plea Regarding Child Endangerment Charges In Calhoun County

A Fort Dodge woman has entered a plea agreement regarding charges against her for allegedly causing serious injury to her infant child and failing to seek medical attention. According to Calhoun County District Court records, 22-year-old Emma Ann Swanson entered an Alford Plea earlier this month, amending the charge of child endangerment, multiple acts, a class B felony, to a class C felony of the same charge. Swanson was taken into custody in May of this year, after authorities say she deprived her son of food, failed to seek medical attention for seizure activity and use unreasonable force that resulted in a skull fracture, hemorrhages, and bruising across the body. Swanson was released on her own recognizance on June 17, and was awaiting a jury trial scheduled on Oct. 21. Per the Alford plea, a ten-year prison sentence is requested to be suspended, and instead she would be placed on four years probation. Her plea and sentencing hearing are scheduled for Nov. 3 at the Calhoun County Courthouse.
