The five candidates running for the two open seats on the Carroll Community School District’s (CCSD) Board of Education discussed key issues during the Carroll Chamber of Commerce’s Candidate Forum Tuesday evening. Questions were submitted by constituents prior to the event, as well as some from the audience to gain a better understanding of where the candidate stands on topics important to community members. One of the questions asked was regarding the role of the school board in strengthening the community and building partnerships with the district. Angela Owen was the first candidate to answer, saying any collaboration between the district and area partners is a passion of hers.
Dr. Charles Svensson says partnerships are vital between the school district and the community and the school board should promote involvement between the two.
Jeff Cullen says communication is key between any collaboration between the district and Carroll and used his time serving as CCSD’s transportation director for an example.
Hunter Harmening, the district’s former juvenile court school liaison acknowledged all of the great partnerships already formed and the need to continue promoting them.
Incumbent Kristen Lundstrom agreed on all of the connections already established, and brought up additional examples.
Candidates were asked additional questions in the hour-long forum, and Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more in upcoming newscasts.
