Gov. Kim Reynolds signed an extension this past weekend to Iowa’s fall harvest proclamation, temporarily easing weight limits for vehicles transporting agricultural goods. The extension took effect Saturday, Oct. 18, and continues through Nov. 17. The proclamation allows vehicles hauling corn, soybeans, hay, straw, silage, stover, fertilizer, and manure to operate overweight up to 90,000 pounds gross weight without a special permit. The measure applies to all state highways but excludes the interstate system. To qualify, vehicles must stay within 12.5 percent of the axle weight limits set under Iowa Code, cannot exceed 20,000 pounds per axle, and must obey all posted bridge and road restrictions. The proclamation is generally maintained each year until all harvest activities for the season have concluded.
