Carroll County Auditor Seeks Election Workers, Particularly For The Arcadia Precinct

Carroll County Auditor Kourtney Payer says she and her office are still searching for workers to man the polls in Arcadia during the upcoming city and school elections on Nov. 4. According to Payer, they are in good shape for most of the county’s precincts, but they are short two people in Arcadia. She says these poll workers play an important role in ensuring Election Day runs smoothly.

Poll workers must be registered voters in the county where they will be working, and should not have close ties to candidates appearing on the ballot. Payer notes they do not need to reside in the same precinct as the one they are working in. She adds they offer training prior to Election Day.

State law requires at least three poll workers per location, and Payer says they don’t want to have to close polling sites if they can help it.

Workers are typically at their assigned locations between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. Polls open at 7 a.m. and remain open continuously until 8 p.m. that day. They are typically done for the day around 8:30 p.m. While serving as an election official is considered a public service, it is also a paid position at $12.50 per hour. Payer says they are always looking for new people to add to their pool of election workers. Anybody interested in becoming a poll worker, particularly those interested in working the Arcadia precinct, is encouraged to contact the Carroll County Auditor’s Office directly at 712-792-9802. Training in Carroll County is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 29.
