U.S Representative Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) says Iowans, specifically farmers, will soon start to see the effects of the government shutdown as it progresses into week three. Feenstra says the U.S House passed a continuing resolution on Sept. 19 to avoid a shutdown from happening, and says it’s disappointing to see where the government is at now.

Feenstra says while day to day operations may still continue as normal, many individuals have already been or will be impacted soon. Starting today (Wednesday) TSA employees will no longer receive paychecks, the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has closed due to lack of appropriated funding and more. Feenstra says here in Iowa the farmers and farming communities are seeing the impact the most.

Feenstra says the U.S House has passed a continuing resolution almost a month ago, but it is unable to get the supermajority from the Senate, which has voted on it seven times now.

If the Senate would vote to pass the continuing resolution, the government would re-open, but Feenstra says he doesn’t foresee that happening anytime soon.

Feenstra says there is rising frustrations from both sides of the political spectrum with the government shutdown, but says it is ultimately up to the Democrats to decide if they want to open it back up for the American people.
