Carroll Man In Custody Following Investigation Of Accident Causing Serious Injuries And Violation Of Probation

A Carroll man remains in custody following an investigation on a car accident-causing serious injuries earlier this year and for violation of probation. According to Carroll County District Court records, 34-year-old Joel Patrick Maloney was involved in a motor vehicle accident on July 23, hitting a vehicle operated by Haeleigh Busse of Guthrie Center head on. Busse received life-threatening injuries, spend 25 days in the hospital and required multiple surgeries. During the investigation, authorities discovered that Maloney’s blood test came back containing levels of THC that would cause impairment at the time of the accident. Maloney is being charged with serious injury caused by vehicle, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of five years in prison and $10,245 in fines. Maloney is also being held for a violation of probation after having pled guilty to assault with intent to commit sexual abuse and first-degree harassment, both aggravated misdemeanors. Maloney was ordered to two-years suspended prison term, and placed on probation for two years, along with registering as a sex offender for a period of ten years. On Oct. 6, Maloney was being taken into custody after he allegedly exposed himself to a relative and consumed alcohol, against the restrictions of his probation. A revocation hearing is scheduled for Nov. 13 at the Carroll County Courthouse, where the original sentence of two years for each charge may be imposed and will run concurrent with each other.
