DNR Investigating Manure Spill Into Creek Outside Of Carroll Monday Evening

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is currently investigating a hog manure spill into Elk Run Creek in Carroll County Monday evening. The DNR Field Office in Atlantic was notified earlier on Tuesday of approximately 5,000 gallons of manure that was spilled into a tributary of the Elk Run Creek after a hose blew while B&B Custom Pumping was land-applying manure from the Brady Boell hog confinement site at 25510 120th St. in Carroll. Immediate action was taken by the applicator, placing dams in several locations while continuing to pump it out of the creek, preventing the spill from flowing into Elk Run. Cleanup efforts continued while on-site crews pumped the contaminated water from the creek. No dead fish have been observed at this time and samples have been collected at sent to the State Hygienic Laboratory for testing. The spill remains under investigation and the DNR will determine if further enforcement action is needed.
