The City of Jefferson will begin flushing water lines tomorrow (Tuesday) and is expected to be completed by noon on Friday. Crews will start on the north side of town, working south of U.S Highway 30 in sections until completed. Flushing will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., with the exception from Adams Street south to Harrison Street, essentially around the Jefferson City Square, which will be on Wednesday Oct. 15 from 4 a.m. to 7 a.m. During flushing, residents may experience low water pressure and some discoloration for a few hours afterwards, due to the iron that could be sitting in the bottom of the waterlines. If water is a brownish color, customers are asked to not drink or use the water for consumption purposes until it clears. General cleaning and bathing is still considered safe, but washing white clothing could cause staining. If clothes do become discolored from the water during flushing, individuals are asked to contact the Jefferson Water Department for a special detergent to remove the iron, but that must happen before drying the white clothing. A map of the sections and times when flushing will take place can be found included below. Additional questions or concerns can be directed to Jefferson City Hall at 712-386-3111 or the Jefferson Water Department at 712-386-2611.
