Gas prices continue to decline across the state according to this week’s fuel report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and AAA-Iowa. As of Wednesday, Oct. 8, the average price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline across Iowa was $2.82, down four cents from the previous week and 12 cents lower than prices in 2024. The national average also dropped four cents to $3.12 per gallon. Statewide retail diesel prices fell four cents on the week with an average of $3.46 per gallon, 11 cents lower than last years prices. Iowa also remains 22 cents lower than the national average of $3.68 per gallon for diesel. Current prices at the Des Moines Terminal report at $1.86 for U87/E10, $2.07 for Unleaded 87, $2.36 for ULSD #2, $2.75 for ULSD #1 and $2.02 per gallon for E70 prices. This is the first report for heating fuels after the warmer summer months, with propane prices averaging $1.52 per gallon in Iowa, and home heating oil at $2.88 per gallon. Natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site are down five cents to $3.32 per MMbtu.
