Five local candidates are running for the two open seats for the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education, with previous transportation director, Jeff Cullen, one of them. Cullen grew up in southwest Iowa, moving to Carroll with his wife a little over 30 years ago. He says all his children graduated from CCSD, with his grandchildren now enrolled in the district. Cullen’s careers have consisted of being a state patrol officer for the Iowa Department of Public Safety, a fire marshal in the state’s office and 19 years of fire fighter service in Carroll. He says his employment with CCSD before taking his current position as the Emergency Management Coordinator with Carroll County EMA has helped him to get a closer look on the inside of the daily operations of the district.
Cullen says his priorities include supports to raise test scores and increase graduation rates, along with a strong system to attract and retain teachers and staff.
Cullen says his career choices and his community service has given him a strong foundation to make him a great candidate for the CCSD Board of Education.
He also encourages all to address him directly with questions or concerns, whether that would be right now or if he would be elected.
The four other individuals running for the two open spots include: Hunter Harmening, Dr. Charles Svensson, incumbent Kristen Lundstrom and Angela Owen. Carroll Broadcasting will have more from the candidates in upcoming newscasts.
