An informational meeting regarding the renewal of the current General Obligation (GO) bond with Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) will be this Wednesday in Manson. The public meeting will begin at 11 a.m. in the VFW hall at 1321 10th Ave., to discuss the details of the college seeking to extend the current bond another 15 years to provide an additional $35 million in funding to expand workforce training and healthcare programs, a new Ag-Science center, and more opportunities for high school students. The original bond was passed by voters in Feb. 2018 for $25.2 million, to help with repairs and maintenance to some of the 50-year-old buildings. This was the second attempt to obtain a GO bond, as the first in 2016 for $29.5 million narrowly fell short of the required “yes” vote margin. With this being an extension of the current levy, there is not an additional tax or no increase to property taxes from ICCC. The tax levy would remain around $2.08 for the average taxable house valuation in the nine-county region, according to ICCC. This tax would continue on homeowners’ properties in Calhoun, Greene, Sac for the listening area, as well as Buena Vista, Hamilton, Humboldt, Pocahontas, Webster, and Wright Counties if passed. The public meeting will feature Dr. Jesse Ulrich, President of Iowa Central to share additional information and to answer any questions. Again, the public meeting will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Manson VFW Hall.
