Gas prices continue to trend down in the latest fuel report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and AAA Iowa. As of Wednesday, Oct. 1, the price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa was $2.86, falling five cents from last week’s prices and down 13 cents from prices a year ago. The state’s average remains 30 cents below the national average of $3.16 per gallon. Retail diesel prices remained unchanged throughout Iowa at $3.50 cents, which is an increase of 19 cents from prices reported in 2024. Iowa prices remain below the $3.71 national average for diesel by 21 cents. Current prices at the Des Moines Terminal report at $1.82 for E-10, $2.04 for Unleaded 87, $2.35 for ULSD #2, $2.73 for ULSD #1, and $2.03 per gallon for E-70. Natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site were up 21 cents at $3.37 per MMbtu. With Wednesday being the first day of October, federal reporting will now begin on retail heating oil and propane prices, which will be released in upcoming fuel reports.
