The Coon Rapids and Bayard Fire Departments responded to a structure engulfed in smoke in Bayard Tuesday afternoon. According to the Coon Rapids Fire Chief Jeffrey Kracht, the Coon Rapids Department was requested to assist the Bayard crew around 12:40 p.m. in the 100 block of Olive Grove Street for a build up of smoke in the attic. Once on scene, crews opened the attic, allowing for the smoke to escape as a faulty vent was determined the cause of the fumes. Crews were on scene for roughly 45 minutes before returning to the stations. The Coon Rapids and Panora Ambulance also assisted on scene but no transfers were made to the hospital. Residents that were home at the time did safely exit the building with no injuries reported. Damage to the building is minimal, reporting mainly smoke damage in the attic and the upper level of the complex.
