City officials in Jefferson are encouraging residents to attend a public meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) evening to discuss the proposed Westwood Area Sidewalk improvement project in the works. City Administrator Scott Peterson says there was documentation dating back 20 years ago for a project similar to this design. He however says he doesn’t know the exact reason as to why the sidewalks were never done, but safety concerns are the driving factor behind the initiative this time.
The project will consist of pouring approximately just over a mile of new sidewalk around a large city block, which Peterson says is equivalent to about four normal sized blocks.
Peterson says a public meeting will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) evening for residents in that area to come learn more about the project, ask questions, or discuss concerns with engineers.
The public meeting is just to get a better understanding on how the community members feel about the estimated one-million-dollar project before city council approves moving forward with final designs and sending it out for bid. If city council agrees to continue, final designs are estimated to be finished by late winter, or early next spring, with a construction state date in the summer of 2026. Peterson encourages all who live in the Westwood area to attend tomorrow (Tuesday) night’s public meeting starting at 6 p.m.at Abundant Life Church in Jefferson.
