Bayard Man Facing Additional Stalking Charges After Allegedly Violating NCO Again

A Bayard man was taken into custody over the weekend for allegedly continuing to contact an individual in violation of a no contact order (NCO). According to Greene County District Court records, 62-year-old Neal W Schoon was taken into custody yesterday (Sunday) after an arrest warrant was issued when he was reported continuing to attempt to contact a Jefferson woman. It was back in January, Schoon was arrested for harassment, after allegedly parking outside of the victim’s residence, calling and leaving multiple voicemails on her phone. The NCO was issued on Feb. 4, which authorities believe Schoon violated over ten times since by continuing to call and leave voicemails, leaving a package and flowers at her residence. He was released but arrested again back in July for allegedly continuing to be in contempt of the NCO. Schoon posted a $10,000 bond on Aug. 8. It was on Sept. 5 that the victim reported to law enforcement that Schoon was in contact with her again by calling twice and leaving voicemails on her phone. An arrest warrant was issued and Schoon now faces additional charges. In all, Schoon faces two stalking- violation of protective orders, class C felonies, ten counts of violation of protective order and one count third-degree harassment, all simple misdemeanors. A jury trial is scheduled for Nov. 4 at the Greene County Courthouse. If convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of over 20 years in prison and $36,000 in fines.
