Cancer 99 Counties Project Coming to Carroll To Inform Public On Monday

A free public meeting will be coming to Carroll on Monday, to discuss current statistics and to increase community engagement and awareness of cancer in the state, but also the county. Carroll County Public Health Director, Maggie Pauley, MPH, says the initiative kicked off earlier this year after Governor Kim Reynolds announced during her Condition of the State address of some alarming cancer findings for the state. Pauley says that there is a partnership between the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and University of Iowa to fund and create a new research team to help understand local cancer concerns.

Pauley says two speakers: Mary Charlton, Director of the Iowa Cancer Registry and Professor of Epidemiology for the University of Iowa and Audrey Gronemeyer, Project Manager for the Iowa Cancer Registry, will give statistics and allow for questions, concerns, and ideas to be heard from community members.

The presentation will be on Monday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and Pauley says there are two different ways individuals can participate.

The link to register for either in person or virtual can be found included with this story on our website. Again, the free public meeting to discuss current cancer trends in Carroll County will be this upcoming Monday, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., and everyone is strongly encouraged to attend. Further questions can be director to Pauley by calling 712-775-2660.
