Sac County Public Health Discontinuing Home Health And Homemaker Programs

The Sac County Board of Health approved during its last meeting to close the Sac County Public Health’s Home Health and Homemaker programs. Home Health programs included nursing services, homecare aide for personal care and therapy in the patient’s home for acute and/or chronic conditions. The Homemaker program extended further off of Home Health, by offering assistance with light housekeeping, meal planning and prepping, along with home and money management, nutrition, and guides to parenting. The decision came after the board reviewed current finances, with the programs requiring a continuous increase in county tax dollars to remain in operation. The board agreed that the organization needed to put more focus on the core mission of keeping the communities in Sac County healthy, which includes immunizations, disease prevention, emergency preparedness, promoting healthy living and more initiatives. Sac County Health Services will be working closely with the other Medicare-certified and private agencies to transition current patients to receive similar services elsewhere locally. The Board of Health would like to emphasis that the Sac County Public Health will remain fully operational, with just the two programs closing. The Homemaker program will conclude on Nov. 1, while Home Health program will end on Dec. 1.
