The Sac County Board of Supervisors has approved of the appointment of Katie Stange to serve as the Sac County Sheriff for the remainder of the term. During their Tuesday meeting, the supervisors discussed briefly the three resumes that were submitted for the position. Supervisor Mike Fischer motioned to appoint Joel Suggitt to the role as sheriff, but the motion was dismissed due to a lack of a second. Supervisors James Wissler motioned to appoint Stange, to keep consistency in the department, saying the other candidates can file a campaign to run next year in the general election to give the residents of Sac County to choice of who they would like to see serve in the role. After unanimous approval from the supervisors, Stange was sworn in. She takes over the sheriff’s position after the unexpected resignation of Jonathan Meyer who wished to step back down to a deputy role. Meyer was appointed by the board after a vacancy was created by the retirement of long-standing Sac County Sheriff Kenneth McClure back in June.
