The deadline for candidacy for school and city elections this upcoming November was last Friday, now a small handful of candidates, including two cities in the listening area, will need to run write-in campaigns due to officials missing the filing window. The City of Jolley in Calhoun County and the City of Galva in Ida County were two of the seven counties that encountered the errors, effecting the 34 candidates across Iowa who placed their names to run for the elected positions across various school boards and city councils. Secretary of State Paul Pate says while it was just a small handful of problems out of the 941 cities and 325 school districts holding elections, he says his office provided extensive training to officials and guides to assist in handling the filing paperwork to avoid any complications. Other counties facing this issue include Chickasaw County, Clinton County, Davis County, Fayette County, and Iowa County.
