A Coon Rapids man has entered a guilty plea and ordered to serve two-years of probation for assaulting a relative, with intent to commit sexual abuse and harassment charges following an incident earlier this year. According to Carroll County District Court records, authorities were dispatched at a residence west of Coon Rapids for a domestic dispute on April 27. Upon arrival law enforcement discovered 34-year-old Joel Patrick Maloney got physical with a family member in the house and attempted to sexually assault her. Maloney was resistance to officers’ commands and made multiple aggressive movements toward law enforcement. Maloney was taken into custody and released on May 23 after posting bond. He entered a guilty plea earlier this month on assault with intent to commit sexual abuse and first-degree harassment, both aggravated misdemeanors. He was sentenced today to serve two-years in prison, which was suspended and instead placed on formal probation for the same timeframe. Maloney was also ordered to be registered on the sex offender registry for 10 years.
