A Stuart man has pled guilty and ordered to serve five years probation for inappropriately touching and engaging in indecent contact with a child over a year span. According to Guthrie County District Court records, 54-year-old Paul Thomas Overton pled guilty on three class C felonies, lascivious acts with a child, and one aggravated misdemeanor, indecent contact with a child back in August, after a 12-year-old victim came forward, claiming Overton touched and fondled her, over and under her clothing from August 2021 to February 2023 on multiple occasions. In March 2023, the Department of Health and Human Services concluded in its investigation that Overton sexually abused the juvenile. Overton was taken into custody in May 2024, but was released after posting a $50,000 bond. Overton was originally being charged with three class B felonies, second-degree sexual abuse, but entered an agreement, pleading guilty to lascivious acts for a lesser charge. Overton was ordered to serve an indeterminate incarceration period not to exceed ten years in prison with credit given for time served. The sentence was suspended and he is ordered to five years probation, as well as register on the sex offender registry for the remainder of his life. Per the agreement, if the original sentence of incarceration to be imposed, each county shall run consecutively for a total of 32 years in prison.
