A teenager is in custody for allegedly assaulting a police officer at a party in Coon Rapids over the weekend. According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, the Coon Rapids Police Department was dispatched to 925 Stagecoach Rd. at approximately 11:30 p.m. for a reported noise complaint. Upon arrival, an officer discovered an underage party involving alcohol in a barn loft behind the main house. The officer was climbing the stairs when he was rushed by a juvenile male and pushed down the steps, resulting in an ankle fracture and other minor injuries. The suspect’s attempt to flee was stopped by the injured officer, and the suspect responded by attempting to gain control of his firearm before leaving the scene, along with multiple other partygoers. The officer was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation at this point and identified the juvenile suspect. While being interviewed by law enforcement on Monday in Carroll, the juvenile attempted to flee from deputies and was detained following a foot chase. He was transported to a juvenile detention center and held on multiple charges. The sheriff’s office also executed a search warrant at the Coon Rapids home following the weekend incident. An investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are expected.
