The Lake City City Council has approved of the hiring of Jimmy James to serve as in the role of Chief of Police for the city department. James has a long history of law enforcement, serving the past 20 years in various of roles including the most recent as a sheriff deputy for Audubon County. He takes over the vacancy that was created by the resignation of previous Chief of Police Jason Gray on July 4. To see the department back at full-staff, three full-time officers will need to be hired. The city council previously approved a $10,000 hiring bonus for certified officers if they commit to a four-year contract with Lake City, with a $25 per hour starting salary for non-certified and $27 per hour once training is completed.
