The Carroll Depot Centre LTD, with assistance from the Region XII Council of Governments, has secured a $5,000 grant from the Union Pacific Railroad Community Ties program for improvements at the historic Chicago and North Western (C&NW) depot, which now serves as the Carroll Chamber of Commerce and Carroll County Growth Partnership (CCGP) offices. Grants through the Community Ties Program range from $5,000 to $30,000 and are awarded to nonprofit 501(c)(3) entities in Union Pacific communities that prioritize safety, workforce development, community vitality, environmental sustainability, or any combination of those goals. The Carroll Depot Centre LTD will use its allocation to undertake aesthetic renovations to the historic depot, which include stabilizing the facility’s wooden siding, completing soffit and fascia improvements, and repainting the buildings. Work is expected to be completed during the 2026 construction season.
