Recent data suggest that Carroll County is outperforming its peers in the state in terms of economic activity, based on Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) revenues. Carroll Chamber of Commerce and Carroll County Growth Partnership (CCGP) Executive Director Kimberly Tiefenthaler presented to the Carroll City Council during its meeting on Sept. 8.

In Fiscal Year (FY) 2024, Carroll County recorded $411.2 million in taxable sales, compared to $387.9 million in FY23, a $23.3 million increase from year to year. Sales within the Carroll city limits make up approximately 78 percent of the county’s FY24 total, and Tiefenthaler says Carroll is performing better than other similarly sized communities.

Tiefenthaler adds that it would be a mistake for Carroll County communities and businesses to simply be satisfied with where they are, and that is why CCGP and the Carroll Chamber of Commerce are constantly seeking ways to support the region’s existing businesses and encourage new ones to make Carroll County their home. A link to Tiefenthaler’s full report to the Carroll City Council at the Sept. 8 meeting, where she detailed the economic development agencies’ many programs and initiatives, is included below.
