It is with deep sorrow that the family of Peggy Ann Seil, 73, of Lake City, Iowa, announces her passing on September 2, 2025, in Custer, South Dakota, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Pegg was born on May 23, 1952, in Yankton, South Dakota, to Leonard and Luella Konstanz. She grew up in Lake City and graduated from Lake City High School before beginning a long and meaningful career at Opportunity Living in Lake City, where she dedicated over 30 years of her life. During her time there, Pegg worked in many roles—recreation, direct care, supervision, and dietary—and in each position, she touched lives with her kindness, patience, and humor. She had a special gift for connecting with residents and staff alike, and she truly cherished the relationships she built there.
Pegg was a woman of warmth and compassion, remembered for her great sense of humor and her ability to make others feel welcomed and loved. Her family was the center of her world, and nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her daughters, son-in-laws, grand pups, and especially her grandchildren. She was a proud and devoted mother to Shawna (Tom) Bedard of Lake City and Jennifer (Luke) Simonson of Bondurant, and a loving grandmother to Colton and Evelyn, who held her heart completely.
Beyond her family, Pegg nurtured many lifelong friendships. She had a special way of turning acquaintances into true friends, and once she did, she held onto those friendships dearly throughout her life.
Pegg had many passions, but sewing and gardening were at the top of the list. Her talent for sewing was remarkable—she often gifted her loved ones with handmade Christmas tree skirts, each one stitched with care and love. Her passion was evident in her impressive collection of five sewing machines and a serger, a testament to the joy she found in her craft. Her green thumb brought beauty and life to her home and garden, another way she shared her creativity with the world.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Luella Konstanz; sisters Bev Vincent and Sharon Vincent; brothers Courtney and Dale Konstanz; niece Leigh Heuton; nephew Randy Konstanz; and great-nephews Justin and Taylor Heuton. Pegg is survived by her daughters, Shawna and Jennifer, son-in-laws Tom and Luke, grandchildren Colton and Evelyn, sister Linda Burgess of Des Moines, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pegg’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those who were blessed to know her. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend—a woman with a big heart, a ready laugh, and an unwavering love for those closest to her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 1:00–3:00 p.m. at Lampe & Powers Funeral Home in Lake City with a memorial service at 3:00. Family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, and honor Pegg’s remarkable life.
